Long story short, an ex-Capcom employee made a free, high-quality fighting game on his own hours. It is not only good, but a few of the characters are a tad relevant to our collective interest.

The MechCommander games are a pair of real-time tactical mecha games based in FASA's Battletech Universe. Unlike real-time strategy games, the gameplay focus is not on building and resource gathering, but instead on the effective management of a handful of units with which you are expected to complete various mission objectives in the various levels. A strong emphasis is placed on salvaging and stealing enemy machines and equipment for use throughout the game, requiring the player to actively consider weapon selection and tactical approaches in order to make the most of what's on his plate.

Mechcommander Gold and MechCommander 2 are the recommended games. There is no reason to download vanilla MechCommander.

Installing and running these games requires a CD-Drive emulator like DAEMON Tools.

Some notes about MechCommander Gold:

-Even though it says it's installing the expansion, it is, in fact, installing both the original and expansion campaigns.

-In order for it to run properly on WinXP machines, You must go into the MechCommander Gold folder, and set the MCX.exe to Windows 98 compatibility mode.
