It's probably because it's kind of fun to mock things, or because imagining what could have been allows you to believe you're smarter or a better writer than the guys who are making you shake your head in disbelief.

Today's topic: Pick an anime you like (or most likely in the context of the question, liked), or a manga with the same properties. Now talk about the moment where it suddenly began to go downhill and never truly recovered. Say why, of course.

By the way, I'm not going to answer the topic's question myself because if you've listened to me in the past, you already know exactly what I'm going to bring up, you just don't know exactly where. Feel free to guess what series it is. It's not worth any points though.

Manyuu Hikencho (1 reply)

I think someone showed a few pages from this series but never brought it up again in another topic here. Manyuu Hikencho is an interesting manga that has Boobs, Ninjas, Samurai, Action, Comedy, and...well boobs. I've only been able to find four chapters that have been translated but we really don't need understand japanese to enjoy big boobs fanservice. From what I gather from the translated chapters, the story is set in a fictional period of feudal japan where big breasted women are pretty much idolized.THe belief during this era are that heavy hooters bring high honor and history while mosquito bites mean a miserly existence and malaise. During this time, the government supports this belief along with a samurai clan known as the Manyuu Clan hold and hoard the secret to perfect breasts. However, a rebellious member of the clan, Manyuu Chifusa has stolen a secret scroll containing tips and secrets for breasts growth. Chifusa sets out on a journey to change the world that her clan has helped create. Chifusa also possesses a mystical sword technique that allows her to remove the volume of another woman's breast and add to her own.

This series seems very fun and it's too bad that there aren't as many people who are translating it. I also heard that this had been licensed on one site but I haven't found any information about it. If anyone knows who's licensed it please let me know or if there's any other information you might have on this series.

Here are links to the current four volumes raw:
[g.e-hentai.org]
[g.e-hentai.org]
[g.e-hentai.org]
[g.e-hentai.org]

Here are the chapters that have been translated:
[g.e-hentai.org]
[g.e-hentai.org]

I only just found out today that they had released a sequel to the ova called Sleeping with Hinako

It's pretty much the same basic concept except instead of angles of Hinako working out, it's angles of Hinako tossing and turning in bed and chatting with you.
Fairy Tail Manga and Anime (1 reply)

I thought I'd mention this amazing gem of an anime and manga. I'm not sure how many people on here watch One Piece but If you like comedic action shows and manga with a little bit of fanservice thrown in, I'd suggest checking out Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail is a story about Lucy, a young (and pretty busty) female mage who meets up with Natsu, a powerful mage. After meeting Natsu, Lucy joins his guild Fairy Tail, a guild renowned for having amazing mages and causing trouble and damage. The manga reminds me a great deal of One Piece considering the crazy and hilarious characters. Beyond the action and comedy, most of the female characters are stacked and curvy. The manga and anime aren't heavily fanservice-y so don't expect crazily bouncing boobs or full frontal flashes of nudity but there are some choice bits in manga especially of Lucy. Here's a link to the one manga page for scans: [www.onemanga.com] and the anime ready page for fansubs: [animeready.com]

Ladies Vs. Butlers. (7 replies)

While awaiting the new episode of Qwasar, and watching new episodes of Axis Powers Hetalia, I stumbled upon this little gem. I know, it's a weird title and would be a wonderful action concept, but after watching the first half of the first episode, I looked at it and was quite curious to see what this show can hold.

Reason I brought this up was the character design. Sure, these ladies cross between moderately and gloriously endowed, but there are some moments in which are gif worthy, but you'll have to play close attention or you'll miss them. One girl in particular, Flameheart, has brief but glorious moments, when a delinquent falls on top of her, and squashing one of her breasts in a brief, but beautiful manner. This is done after an exchange of burns in which the delinquent calls Flameheart's hair a set of drills that are better on a construction site. Then there are the DREADED SUNLIGHT EFFECTS that just flat out ruin another potential girl.

I would've shown pictures, but still in the process of watching the first episode, and probably the next. What do you guys think?

Anything wrong with anime today? (4 replies)

Now don't get me wrong, I love anime and find that its gradual acceptance into a serious medium for storytelling is nothing but good. It can do many things with its characters that actors cannot, and it can do many things with its settings that typically just look like hokey, overused CG. Not to mention that as an industry, it's got to be a big one that employs many people and has inspired many both inside and outside of the borders of Japan to take the general style in refine it in their own ways for people's entertainment.

Doesn't mean that the industry can't fuck up sometimes.

What I want here is for people to state a grievance or two they have with anime as it has grown into a major medium, either in general or on a case-by-case basis. More importantly, stating WHY it's a problem to you could help us learn just a little more about what does and doesn't work in our medium of choice.

Or, to put it another way, intelligently complain about shit you don't like.

I'll start with a broad topic. The rest of you may follow at leisure.

Over-reliance on "Tsundere" characters

I blame "Love Hina". It was the first of FAR too many anime and manga these days where, instead of creating any sort of romantic tension or following any sort of logical relationship steps, most lasting romances in anime are boiled down as follows.

Step 1: Boy meets girl.
Step 2: Girl hits boy for either no reason or reasons beyond boy's control. Apology will not save boy, ever- those that work are quickly forgotten.
Step 3: Boy is forced to become a complete doormat with a fist magnet in his nose, as for some reason, the plot demands that he get with girl despite there often being MUCH better choices available in the cast (See: Mutsumi) that will PROVE themselves better on numerous occasions. The Shinto gods themselves will ensure that boy will constantly be thrown into situations where he will be sucking fist.
Step 4: Repeat for about 25 episodes.
Step 5: Completely bullshit 'reason' why girl is the way she is quickly pulled out of the writer's ass, evidently redeeming her entirely in the eyes of the entire cast during the last episode.
Step 6: SURPRISE!! SUDDENLY COUPLE~!! =3
Step 7: Cue continued girl-on-boy domestic abuse.

To me, 'tsundere' characters are basically a lazy way to extend the length of a series and are often very poorly written. As implied above, there is often no reason given as to why the girl gets a free pass to make the boy her bitch, and when there IS, it is rarely a good one. It also comes off as completely strange that a relationship built on "I HATE YOU YARRRRGH *PUNCH*" will often make a RAPID 180 in the final episode and suddenly pair the characters together as a happy little item faster than you can say 'two-for-one sale', with no reason besides the writers needing to wrap things up before the 26-episode deal concludes.

After all, there are PLENTY of unlikable, vindictive bitches in real life. Exactly what makes them more appealing when they're on an animation cel?

I say this to say that, I feel that a good much shows just lack that umph and personality that Anime made in the late 80'-early 90's possess in my opinion.
This isn't to say ALL modern anime are like this(and that all classic anime were great..) - Technology has come a long way, allowing for some pretty amazing things to be done in this day and age in an anime (Last Exile for example is incredible, and Champloo was awesome as well - not to mention Gainax's FLCL and Gurren Lagaan among the others.); Basically, you all should know the major hits that've come out over the years.
perhaps however, these are simply the rantings of a nostalgic, old school anime fan - too caught up in the look and feel of the old-school anime that got me hooked on the genre in the first place .

How do you all feel about it?

There are no english words to describe how fucking awesome it is, so I'll describe it with a phrase that will make sense near the end of the series: "Galaxy-sized Giant Robots are FUCKYEAH amounts of win."

You have fanservice everywhere, giant robots with a trend of resembling giant faces, a recurring theme of "DRILL TO PIERCE THE HEAVENS!" and assloads of badassery that makes the famous Falcon Punch clip look like a wet candle.
Kamen no Maid Guy (25 replies)

This is the best anime I've seen in a while, but that may be because of my strange sense of humor. The anime about a busty high school girl, Naeka, and her fat otaku brother, Kousuke, recieving a pair of maids as gifts from their rich grandfather.

Fubuki is what you'd expect, a busty maid who cleans the house and other maid duties, along with some other things. Kogarashi, on the other hand, is a large muscular man with fangs and claws, wears a maid outfit and attempts to please his master, Naeka, usually in rediculous or extreme ways.

Yeah. At first, I thought I would be watching this for the fanservice/comedy. But, no, I now watch it for Kogarashi! The most epic anime character ever!!! A man who wears a dress, has long hair, and still manages to be manlier than every other anime character ever. Put together.

Don't get me wrong, the constant bouncing breasts are great, but if I had to choose between the fanservice and Kogarashi, I'd totally choose Kogarashi! However, that would change Kogarashi himself, since he always doing perverted things.. in inocent ways. For example, he stole the panties of every girl in Naeka's school, to find a possible assassin(His only clue was that she wore strawberry print underwear). Did I mention he stole them while the girls were still wearing them?

If you love maids, big bouncy breasts or rediculous random humor then this anime is something you must see!

I've been looking all over the net but I can't seem to find them in english or with english subtitles. I've seen the first few episodes and I really like it so far. I laughed my ass off through most of it and also Junko's pretty hot ;). So if anyone knows where I can watch or download said episodes please do not hesitate to post. Thanks!

Well, I can only say a few things about the dub. While I like the voice actor that did Tenchi's voice. But don't you think at times he was replaced by Kermit the Frog? Honestly. I mean the anime in bad in itself. Its just one cluster of anime girl stereo-types. The cute, the princess, the wild, the work woman, the ditzy, the smart, whatever have you. I suggest this over the other like the first series, not only is it an alternate version to it but there is more depth and more episodes you can shake a stick with fanboy attached to the end of it at.

And there are some resemblence to Bleach Characters to Final Fantasy Characters. Some based on personality, looks, and job class lookalikes.

Yamamoto Genryuusai = Fusoya (FF4 based on looks.)

Ichigo Kurosaki = Cloud Strife (FF7 I assume based on personality that and when not in bankai he wields a giant sword.)

Orihime Inoue = Tifa/Aerith (FF7 Because of Tifa's obvious bust and I think Aerith for her personality.)

Anyway, those are my guesses. You can make more if you like.
