BOOB-KAI Now we are all familiar with one of our greatest frienemies when it comes to anime-watching- the good ol' shambling abomination known as the shonen fighting series. Full of yelling, fighting, powering up, the occasional nice set of boobs, and that wonderfully quaint "GB2 Kitchen" attitude towards female fighters that has only gone away relatively recently, the shonen fightin

Now, let me tell you why you should care- They're the only vertical shooters you will ever see me recommend on this forum. There are very good reasons for this, the presentation and design among them. In fact, I even made a video to say why you should take a look:

All right, first off is an enhanced re-release of the Dungeons & Dragons arcade games, both together in one bundle to be released over XBLA, PSN, Wii U, and Steam. the main features will be high-def sprites and such, "houserule" settings that change how some aspects of the game play, unlockables, as well as possibly permanently upgradeable characters. Oh yeah, and drop-in/drop-out m

Since I was sure there was a thread on this hereabouts, decided I'd dig it up. I recently picked up Pokemon Conquest, which is a rather unlikely fusion of Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition. While the idea of the famous warlords of the Sengoku Jidai as Pokemon trainers may not be something that make most people go for it, it sure got my attention.

Not a joke. It's actually a crossover fangame that got picked up by Capcom and is now available for free at: I'm actually rather impressed: Most Mega Man fangames and romhacks tend towards the ludicrously hard, but this one is actually about as difficult as a regular Mega Man game. Unfortunately, it's lacking any method of recording progress at the moment.

I would actually prefer a straight remake like the one that's currently being run of Space Battleship Yamato. Enough like the original to be recognizable to the old fans, but with more interesting doodads on top, like incorporation of more of the Senshi's "civilian powers" from the manga.

There are no trailers or stills for the new show that I could find- about all we know about it comes from Naoko Takeuchi, and she says it's going to be a new show, and that they're aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release.

And another Let's Play came out. Starting from my mad, mad plan to actually to an LP of the Valis 1 for the Sega Genesis, I have gotten into doing one of every version of Valis II I could get my grubby mitts on. Here's the sum total of what I've done so far. Valis 1 Genesis Valis 1 Part 1- A magical Warrior is You! Valis 1 part 2- Wrath of the Exposition God. Valis 1 Part 3- Fire, Wind a

As there has been a disturbing lack of Kamen Rider in this section of the forum. So, Kamen Rider is one of japan's longest running live-action superhero franchises, having been around longer than even Ultraman or the super sentai shows. The first series, simply titled Kamen Rider, was released in 1971, and starred Hiroshi Fujioka (who would later play the most insane game system mascot of all

Just thought I'd give you all a heads up- the remake of La-Mulana, originally bound for Wiiware in North America, is instead coming, in English, to the PC. Basically, in May, Nicalis '86ed the remake's release in North America because "Wiiware was dying", and so Nigoro, the three people who made the original and developed the remake, kicked Nicalis to he curb and joined up with Asterizm

In other news, Bleach is no longer in the top-ten best selling manga listings in Japan, and no one knows exactly how far it has fallen. Meanwhile, One Piece continues to kick everyone's ass, and someone has prepared a little chart to maybe explain why. See attachment.

So, not too long from now, Ys Origin is going to be released on Steam. So what is Ys, and how do you pronounce that thing? It's one syllable, y as in subtlety. Ys is a very long-running series of action RPGs whose beginnings were roughly contemporary, time-wise with the original Legend of Zelda. Until recently, not many of the games were ported to the US- Ys I and II were only on the Tur

20. Oni PC
Just thought I'd share this. So, Oni is a 3rd-person beat 'em up/shooter made by Bungie Software in their pre-Halo days, back when they were doing some pretty cool stuff. It has some pretty neat stuff- the general setting aesthetics are rather heavily derived from Ghost in the Shell, and the unarmed combat is both great and fairly easy to get a hold of. The game does have its weaknesses, s

Oppai Braves: The Doctor's Art. Li Jing considered himself the unluckiest messenger in the Empire. Sure, there were many who had been killed, but that merely meant that they had avoided many of the indignities that had been heaped on him during his time working for the glorious Empire. However, he was about to suffer what he might consider to be his last indignity, as he was currently surround

Yeah, I watch American shows, too. So, Exosquad is an action/sci-fi cartoon that ran from 1993-1995 for 52 episodes, produced by Will Meuginot. While the series never achieved the same level of popularity as some of the Warner Brothers productions, such as Batman: the Animated Series, the show did show just how far American animation had come in terms of writing and plot direction, and the sho

That's right, I've started a Sailor Moon thread. I'm MAD, I tell you! Anyways, I kinda got a hankering to start talking about this show for two real reasons. 1.) It was the first anime phenomenon I got to witness first-hand. Robotech and Force Five and all were before my time, and Dragon Ball Z didn't hit until at least a year after, plus Gundam Wing was still a bit out in the future. 2.

QuoteDjoser Maybe I am just bored, of the incredible lacki of originality of Japanese manga/anime, but for me it is incredibly annoying/unrealistic when the every character explains how his own, or imagines how their challenger's, attacks work in every detail. -.- Yeah, that's why I'm defaulting to Rayearth right now. "It's magic, you're being hit by fireballs 'cause I just plain want it t

QuoteDjoserand that sucks as it happens with way too many (all?) popular shonen animes :/ At least in Fist of the North Star, the series didn't ever actually pretend that Kenshiro wasn't one of the strongest dudes in the setting- More often then not, it was a big deal to find an enemy that could just even match Kenshiro, and there are only about three or four villains in the whole show that cou

I actually took a look back at this, and pretty much all of my favorite anime series were made (or at least started on or before the 1996 cut-off date. Let's go down the list. Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers (1974) Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) Macross/robotech (1982) Fist of the North Star (TV)(1986) Legend of the Galactic Heroes (1989) Magic Knight Rayearth(1994) Mobile Fighter G G

The original Dragon Ball was actually a pretty strong show- as strong as Goku was, the show did play it as that, as strong as Goku was, he was still just a kid in a big new world- Krillin gave him a hard going in a fight, and he even had tournament losses to Master Roshi and Tien. One you start to get into the first Piccolo arc, through, is when we get into the familiar pattern of "Goku is t

Yeah, if you dig down, the creators have gotten up to all kinds of crazy stuff- Like how Yoshiyuki Tomino originally wanted Turn A Gundam to have a female protagonist, but when he got turned down, he inserted a lot of scenes where the protagonist he ended up making spent cross-dressing.
